I’m not the man I used to be

I’m a proud American.  I like apple pie and Chevrolet and a cold beer every now and then.  I stand for the flag at parades and I know most every Alabama song there is.  I also discovered that I ate a little too much junk while partaking the typical American diet.

When Emily and I were married, I weighed in at a whopping 145 pounds.  I wasn’t any taller then but I definitely had not finished growing.  I don’t mean just growing heavier, but I was still growing into an adult…yes, we were married pretty young…right out of college.

Anyhow, I matured and settled in at a pretty consistent 185 and that worked pretty well.  Like most people though, time goes on and the kids keep us busy and we ate less home cooked meals and more junk on the run.  I got pretty well addicted to Mt Dew and donuts and candy bars and all that jazz…and I never turned down a trip to Panera.  Consequently, I blossomed in the last 2 years, to a heavier-than-I-wanted-to-be 218 pounds.  That’s when I had enough and decided to do something about it…

So, I started eating right, got on a journal-what-you-eat program and have, in the last 7 weeks, lost 40 pounds.  My blood pressure is down.  My energy is fine and I have a healthy mane and coat…wait…I mean I feel good.  It has shed fast and is a bit startling to people around me but I am pleased.  Many people have asked if I am healthy or if I am angry at everything.  It’s weird, but when you get used to looking at someone at a certain weight, it’s weird when you see them a lot lighter.

So, I am definitely not obsessed with weight but I am interested in my long term health and, to that end, I am determined to eat better and make better choices about my health.  I may not be the man I used to be, but I will be a healthier man and that makes me very excited!

A little more about my diet

  1. You look great, Warren! I wish I could lose 40 pounds that fast. Unfortunately I am not addicted to pop or candy and don’t eat much fast food so the fast fixes won’t work for me. I think it’s gonna take good old-fashioned exercise. Sigh.

  2. That sounds too fast to lose that much weight. I must say you look good. Stay healthy.

  3. Very timely. Congrats, you’re looking good.

I hit 220 last fall, and I hated it. I lost around 25 lbs over a few months and felt great.

Packed some pounds back on over this winter… back up to 204. But tomorrow, our family goes back on the straight and narrow.

March… you know? Hup two three four…

I’d love to be the 175 I was back in the day, for many years… but 190 sounds pretty decent these days.

  4. Wow! I wouldn’t have recognized you if I seen you out in public! Keep eating healthy! My sister had a heart attach last month at the age of 40! As for the diet I will have to say though it does make me mad that men can loose weight so much easier than women that it’s not fair! lol I’m not saying you haven’t worked hard at it at all but I know when my husband goes on a diet he looses weight so fast and he still eats chips at dinner without any veggies. I eat veggies all the time and can’t loose an ounce! Partly it’s the medicine I have to take, but still. Keep up the good work! 🙂

  5. Ha! “Blossomed”–is that what we call it? 🙂 I blossomed 10 lbs over the last year. I wish I had the willpower to shed them. I’m just not in a good spot to do that right now. 🙁
    You look great, congratulations!!

  6. Good job Warren!!!!!
Butch and I are going to be joining your club now that we are home from vacation. The eating has GOT to stop! We had our last hurrah last night at our favorite Mexican place. What have you been eating?

  7. Capri K – we are doing “The Ideal Protein Diet” so we eat mostly whole foods and a few “IP” products each day. It works and is not hard at all, aside from curbing our cravings, etc. I recommend it if you want a regimen that works and is simple. It ain’t cheap but I like the simplicity

  8. Warren,
I’m trying to do the same thing…love to hear about your diet..workout schedule etc…anything to help the cause. Congrats on the weight loss!
    Tom
