Well, Lent is upon us. Â I still have my shirt after yesterday so I figure it will be a pretty easy going Lenten season. Â I don’t typically give up stuff for it but my family does. Â You may remember last year that Isaac gave up farting on the cat and Abigail gave up wearing Mom’s sparkly eye shadow. Â This year Abigail is giving up chocolate…typical girl. Â Isaac wanted to give up school but I told him that was not an option. Â After much debate, he finally decided to give up graham crackers…way to go trooper!
Anyhow, I have had an ongoing struggle against caffeine which I won’t attempt to beat this spring. Â I think a big part of it is a correlated addiction to pop. Â So, this year for Lent, I am going to buck my typical lack of Lenten cheer and actually give up pop. Â So, without pop, I still need a caffeine delivery system (I’ll work on that addiction another time). Â The only other alternative to pop is coffee so I have been practicing drinking coffee and actually pretty well like it now. Â It’s strange that I had to convince myself that I like something but I suppose lots of things in life are that way.

So, for special occasions like delays from school, we stop by the local convenience store and grab a couple of cappuccinos (Isaac likes them a lot) so we can be fully caffeinated as we greet the day!  Convenience store cappuccinos aren’t as flashy as “real” cappuccinos but at $1.29, I don’t really care…plus, they are just plain tasty…forget the purism!

At work I don’t (yet) have a cappuccino machine so I stick with the regular style coffee…strong, bitter and black…like my heart. Â Most regular men would be satisfied with a regular-sized coffee cup, but, because of my caffeine disability, I prefer to drink from a barrel. Â My barrel of coffee drains about half of the pot at a time. Â I believe coffee will do…

Not only is WV wild and wonderful, but Isaac and I are as well when we are fully caffeinated!

Leaded vs. Unleaded
I cannot do leaded… it makes me a nervous-fretful-anxious-spaz.
What about the sugar factor? Do you sweeten your coffee, because no soda means you are giving up a lot of sugar, that could look good on your Lenten resume.
Isaac’s poor teacher! Remember – we like this one and want to keep her happy.
Don’t forget to drink plenty of water, too. I’m ALL about the H2O! Good stuff!

Good on ya giving up pop. It’s a hard road. Coffee is way better, but more effective as a caffein delivery system. You’ll be pinging after too much.
My daily world starts with coffee… giving up soda can be hard I know. I met a gal at the store who drank a couple gallons of pop each day! I’m good with a few cups ‘o joe.

Giving up soda is probably easy for me. I very rarely drink soda, only when I eat out or every once in a while I will have cravings. But coffee is another story. I HAVE to have coffee(for the caffeine). I did manage to cut my coffee intake down to only 1 cup a day. I used to drink at least 3 in the morning and 2 more in the afternoon.

I don’t drink coffee but there’s no way I could handle giving up my one Diet Pepsi every morning!

I could give up the coke-but not the coffee. You have the best sense of humor-you need to do stand up.

Quite humorous.

That’s funny, I don’t think I’d give up anything. I could never give up coffee or chocolate. I love that your son wanted to give up school – great idea!

It’s funny…I am the non-purist about Lent and I think I am doing the best at keeping to it! Oh well, it’s a fun thing to try and coffee has to be better than pop for me…we’ll see how it goes!
